Specchio d’Italia Foundation was created to respond to requests for help from various Italian regions following the health emergency triggered by Covid-19. It follows the model of the Stampa – Specchio dei tempi Foundation, which for over 60 years has transformed the generosity of the Piedmontese into interventions to help the weakest.
Specchio d’Italia has already launched practical initiatives in 7 Italian regions, embracing the most marginalized families, the most vulnerable students, the elderly in difficulty and small businesses overwhelmed by the pandemic. We work to curb early school leaving, stem social unease in the suburbs and give relief to those who suffer: the sick, people with disabilities, single mothers. We operate all over the world: in Sri Lanka, where we finance a village of five foster homes for girls who are victims of abuse and violence, as well as an orphanage for street children. In Somalia, where we are present with a children’s hospital with 50 beds. In Mexico, where we have rebuilt a school for earthquake-stricken children. Everywhere, Specchio d’Italia is committed to giving practical help to those in real need, giving hope. Building on the experience gained by Specchio dei tempi, the foundation carries out projects aimed at fighting old and new poverty. Projects made possible by the readers of the Gedi Group newspapers and by thousands of donors.
