Venice means Italy. It is part of that small group of magic words that immediately connect our country with the world. However, Venice is suffering the effects of these dramatic months more than other places. Starting in 2019 with the disasters resulting from high water, continued in 2020 with the lockdown caused by the pandemic, through to the collapse of international tourism that fear and anti-contagion regulations have drastically penalised. Venice is a city that is struggling to return to life and Specchio d’Italia could not remain insensitive in the face of this particular emergency.
Therefore, in autumn 2020 we made a fund of 60,000 euros available to provide economic aid packages of 3,000 euros each, through a tender for small businesses in difficulty. This initiative was also presented to the guests of the Film Festival, in which we participated illustrating the tender. An initiative entitled “Venice Again” which follows the similar experiences carried out in Turin, Cuneo and Sassari by the Specchio dei tempi foundation.
Speed, transparency and efficiency: also in Venezia Specchio worked at a record pace, collecting applications, selecting and rewarding the winners in just one month. Twenty in all, the businesses helped with a bank transfer of three thousand euros each: from potters to restorers, from glass blowers to artisan shoemakers, from maintenance workers to costume jewellery retailers, from boat builders to engravers, to goldsmiths and bartenders. Small and very small entrepreneurs who are the heart of the city.
